“Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success." |
Education has become a huge part of my life. I am currently a student as a Master of Arts in Education at Fort Lewis College. I love writing; it has become a huge passion of mine. I write free form poetry, creative non-fiction, and songwriting. That being said, I would say that, first and foremost, I have always been a musician and thespian.
I grew up in Washington, D.C. until I was twenty-one. I worked a good amount of government jobs, and discovered education while in Israel and the West Bank. I moved to Durango to pursue... the arts. I graduated with a Liberal Studies degree with a focus in Theatre and secondary focuses in Music and English in December of 2016. I discovered the realm of education while teaching art one summer in the La Plata County Boys & Girls Club. I knew I had found something that I would fit me as a career. I rediscovered my love of writing and acting while finishing my Bachelor's degree. A year later I was enrolled in the Master of Education program at Fort Lewis College. |
Which brings me to now: September 20th, 2018 I am currently a teacher of English and Theatre at Brady High School, a Project-Based alternative high school in the West Alameda neighborhood of Lakewood, Colorado. I also use my music background to teacher Audio Recording for a two hour workshop on Friday. We are an alternative high school for students who need "rapid credit recovery." Their previous schools might say that they failed out of school, but I believe it is that their school failed them. I believe in teaching a rigorous curriculum, while at the same time teaching students empathy, altruism, and skills to truly succeed in the 21st century workforce.
I am also huge into outdoor activities and the performing arts. If there is a band playing for 10 dollars at a dive bar, consider me there. I am a huge advocate of community theatre in Colorado. I am a former 2-year member of the Durango Dot Comedy improvisation troupe, and I continue to play at open mics in the Denver area, I love writing, and the last tab of this portfolio are writings I will begin to collect. Some poems, some stories, and some creative non-fiction. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments, or materials you can share with a fellow
